england, 17th century, original recipe:  tayke hony, buttre & caste in a potte tyl it wexed vry thyk.  yee now take cinnymon, & add there-to whyte brede, þer-to cutte 2 trenchours, & caste & toste.  take þin hony paste whylthe it hot, & sprede it uppe-on þin trenchourys with a spone, & surve forth.
